Happy 2018 you fishy fools! The Musky Lab is up and running...

The Musky Lab is more of a concept than a physical location.  True - it’s a real place up here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin where I delve into the dark arts of the Musky fly fishing game...many crazy angling souls have made the pilgrimage over the last decade to visit and learn the game as I play it...and the actual Musky Lab in its physical  incarnation has moved about several times and now sits in the Flambeau State Forest on a hill overlooking a wonderful, beautiful Musky fishery called Lake of the Pines.

I’m Brad Bohen and I live and breath Musky fly fishing like no one else.  I’m gonna blog my heart out for ya...play it till my fingers bleed so to speak;).  That’s what I’ve been doing full time since about 2007 - which was the last time I actually held a ‘real job’.  Now I make my living outfitting, guiding and designing the most cutting edge big predator flies and lures anywhere.

I love to travel and teach too.  I often fire up the land ship and make a cross-country cruise in the wintertime to spread the gospel of the Musky much like a JohnnyAppleseed.  Maybe you’ve caught my gig - maybe you have not...

This blog is my best attempt to transcend physical limitations and to share the full force of my passion for the sport with as many like-minded souls as possible!   Bear with me as it’ll be a work in progress.  I’m FAR from being a savvy interweb wizard mind you...but where there’s a will there’s a way as the proverbial saying goes!

Elbow grease got me this far...

As I peck out this first Musky Lab post in the early dawn of a cold January 3rd in the year of our lord 2018 its cold as a Musky heart outside minusTwelve on the Fahrenheit scale and the river Flambeau outside my window looks daunting and beautifully silent.  I know those toothy critters with the mean green paint job are under all that ice and snow...lurking and waiting..

I’m waiting too!  Wintertime here is a time to rest.  After a six month outfitting and guiding season even the roughest, toughest hombre needs a bit of down time.  The New Year rings in the start of fly tying and materials making season.  Now until about the first of May the daily ritual is wake at dawn, brew coffee, poach eggs and head out to the Bucktail barn and swing the creative ax.

I love this game!  I look forward to sharing the adventure with y’all - follow along...

The coffee is done!

Tally Ho!!
